Ingredients

For the Crispy Tofu:

  • 2 blocks extra firm tofu, drained and pressed

  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch

  • Oil for frying

For the Maple Sriracha Sauce:

  • 4 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce

  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup 🍁

  • 2-4 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to taste) 🌶️

  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil

  • ½ teaspoon ginger powder

For Stir-Frying :

  • 4 cloves garlic, diced

  • 2 bunches green onions, cut into 1-inch chunks (optional)

For Serving:

  • 4 cups cooked rice 🍚

  • avocados, sliced 🥑

  • 1 cup edamame, shelled

  • cucumber, thinly sliced

  • Spicy mayo (see notes)

  • Black sesame seeds for garnish

How to Make It

Step 1: Prep the Tofu

  1. Press the tofu: Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object (like a pan) on top for 10-15 minutes to remove excess moisture.

  2. Instead of cutting, break the tofu into chunks with your hands for a more natural, chicken-like texture.

  3. Toss the tofu pieces in cornstarch to create a crispy coating.

Step 2: Cook the Tofu

  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.

  2. Add tofu pieces in a single layer and cook until golden brown and crispy on all sides (about 5-7 minutes). Remove and set aside.

Step 3: Make the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, sriracha, sesame oil, and ginger powder.

Step 4: Stir-Fry & Combine

  1. In the same pan, reduce heat to medium and add more oil if needed.

  2. Sauté the garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant. (If using green onions, add them now and stir-fry for another minute.)

  3. Return the crispy tofu to the pan and pour in the maple sriracha sauce. Toss to coat and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 5: Build Your Bowls

  1. Divide cooked rice into four bowls.

  2. Top with crispy tofu, avocado slices, edamame, cucumber, and black sesame seeds.

  3. Drizzle with spicy mayo and serve immediately.

Spicy Mayo Recipe

For an easy, creamy kick, mix:

  • ½ cup mayo (vegan or regular)

  • 2 tablespoons sriracha

  • 2 teaspoons lime juice (or water to thin it out)

Drizzle it over your bowl and thank me later! 🤤

Pro Tips for the Best Maple Sriracha Tofu

✅ Pressing tofu is a must for crispy results! The drier it is, the crispier it gets.

✅ Breaking the tofu by hand gives it a more irregular, natural shape that mimics chicken.

✅ Cornstarch coating helps create a crispy texture without deep frying.

✅ Air-fryer option: Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, shaking halfway through.

✅ Double the batch because you will want leftovers for lunch!
